Abstract : The author, a member of the Chinese Communist Party and active in the Shanghai labor movement, initiated successful union activity by forming an alliance with Du Yuesheng, leader of Shanghai's Green Gang, who often successfully mediated labor disputes. With the Japanese occupation of the city, some unions resisted, others collaborated.
