Abstract : Not only did the work of Western decadent artists such as Aubrey Beardsley influence the work of such Chinese artists and writers as Yu Dafu and Tian Han, but the ideas embodied in their work were a harbinger of the Western commodity culture that invaded Shanghai in the 1930's.
