Abstract : Originally organized as a fundraiser, the Jiangsu and Shanghai Financial Committee took on the role of a primary financial administrative institution in 1927 during the early months of Chiang Kai-shek's Nanjing Nationalist government. The fundraising activity and control of treasury bonds by the committee, made up mostly of Shanghai businessmen, laid the financial foundations for the consolidation of the Chinese government. Although the committee was officially disbanded in August 1927, it had been an important temporary force in linking the Nanjing government with financial and business circles in Shanghai.
