Abstract : An updated version of a lecture given at the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies, McGill University, Montreal, in October 2001. The aim is to describe briefly the history, cultural holdings, comprehensive services, international exchanges, and contacts, as well as the latest development trends of the three largest libraries in China: the National Library of China, the Shanghai Library, and the Nanjing Library.
