Abstract : After the Small Sword Society Uprising a large number of Chinese rushed into Shanghai leased territory and this led to the formation of mixed residence of Chinese and foreigners and the setting up of a new administrative system.Because of its particularity Shanghai leased territory became an "isolated island"without war and the population increased suddenly with refugees pouring in.Meanwhile,its urban function was explored and developed and the urbanization was sped up as well. 上海小刀会起义发生后,华人大量涌入租界,导致了“华洋杂居”局面的形成和新的行政系统的建立。因政治上的特殊性,上海租界成为近代中国一个相对无战事的“孤岛”,难民潮迭现,人口激增。同时,其城市功能也逐步得到全面开发,城市化进程大大加速。由此,上海租界迅速崛起。
