Abstract : Activated by the rape of a Chinese student by an American soldier in January 1947, Shanghai students began to demand improvement in their immediate conditions. By May, under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, their goals had become anti-imperialism and opposition to Chiang Kai-shek.
