Abstract : The Shanghai financial crisis of June 1935, exacerbated by the growing power of the government-established “Three banks" (particularly the Bank of China, the nation's central bank), forced Shanghai banking circles to take advantage of central bank credit and led to demands for the establishment of a central reserve bank.
