Photo from an album (UoB reference Os04) kept in the School of Oriental and African Studies Archives, London (SOAS reference MS 380 876/4). No caption in the album for this photo of five coffins in freshly dug graves, with flowers, in a graveyard. One of the gravestones in the background reads “Minnie Mary Wife of the Rev. H.S. Phillips C.M.S. Missionary” Related to 1 August 1895, massacre of eleven missionaries and Christians at Gutian, Fujian Province. Burial of victims at mission cemetery, Foochow (Fuzhou).
