Biography : Jack Birns started working as a free-lance assignment photographer in 1946 in Los Angeles. He was sent to China in December 1947 with three ten-year old cameras on assignment for Life magazine. Jack Birns covered the last years of the Civil war that raged in China until May 17, 1949.
